Artist's Comments

Oh crap i forgot to tell you the specifications...

Castilene Hard, roughly 8" tall, smoothed with turpinoid, dremeled razor blade for the knife and plumbers epoxy for the handle. And the base was built over the top third of a two liter pepsi bottle.

The details in Octopus Attack Full Figure2 by ~Merkaba998 are stunning, I really like the way you only have a few of the Octopus' arms visible while the rest of it is left un-sculpted as it makes you wonder how large and what the rest of the creature would look like. The variety in textures of the different parts of the sculpt along with the musculature and particularly the expression on the face of the girl is superb. (Featured by ^Thebuild)

Yes i did. It's actually called Castilene. Its a sort of sculpting wax. I always hesitate to call it straight wax because i have no idea what it really is made out of. But it behaves exactly like wax but at room temperature it is hard as a rock and needs no armature. You can get it at [link]

Hope that helped.

Thanks. It seems like it would be SO tough to work backwards and delete space instead of add to it. Is it hard?

Castilene is a wax but the magic of it is that you can add. When it's heated up the consistency changes from room temperature hard to boiling hot. But in between the solid and molten stage is a easily sustainable putty stage. That is when you do your sculpting, when its warm and soft. If you don't like what you've done you can scrape it off when it gets hard or use some source of heat like a hairdryer or alcohol torch to heat it up on the sculpt and remove it.

It's very easy.

Cool! Is it at all possible for you to send me a little bit of this? A tiny sample so I can test it out? If not i understand. Maybe we can do a trade for some of it? My jewelry, logo/graphic designs, drawings, etc for your wax ?

No, I'm sorry. All my castilene is needed on deck. But these guys have it [link] for a fair price and even with standard shipping it will get to you pretty quick.

Your work is stunning! Detailed, sharp in a very cool style. Very hard to imagine how you work out everything in 3-D, my hat's off to you. Thanks for sharing something so inspiring!
