Artist's Comments

Material is Primo Sculpey. There is no armature and it has been hollowed due to cracks in the cooked surfaces. This one is straight foreword, it’s a Greek god named Hephaestus. He was the son of Hera and was an ugly son of a bitch who liked to make things, namely metal things. He also makes Zeus’s lighting bolts. He fashioned the first woman ect.

With this particular sculpture I wanted to try something other than super Sculpey. The packaging on Primo clamed that I was the best and indicated that it was durable enough not to crack. Well it did. In fact it cracked all over. It cracked in places that were under the prescribed thickness with no apparent force acting on them. Let’s just say there is more super glue than primo in this one.

Bye the way if anyone has the perfect sculpting material please let me know I’d really like to get my hands on it so I can concentrate on a good sculpt and not have to worry or deal with…

Cracking
Shrinking
Breaking
Burning
Drooping
Supporting
Cooking
Melting
Curing
Gluing
Sanding
Or cutting

That would be great, nice talking with yah Peter.

What makes Hephaestus by ~Merkaba998 What makes particularly interesting is the massive amount of differences within the piece, the number of different textures, shapes and patterns that have all be woven together into one piece of work. The lighting combined with the red clay really helps to give a strong sensation of heat. The detail on the entire piece from the skin and soft tissue to the wood of the hammer, the variety of stones and even the scarring around his face has been perfectly constructed. Superglue or not, he's fantastically hideous where he needs to be, with the most exquisite feet EVER, and I love him.

Oh, yeah... You're not so bad yourself. :blowkiss:

What temperature do you bake at? I've had to support my pieces during baking but I haven't had any cracking problems and my pieces aren't hollow.

First, know that your words have power. Over your environment, the people you meet, friends and family, and most especially, over you. Then realize that you have power over your words.
:iconmerkaba998:
Typically i bake from 250-275. If the piece is thick and solid i will go for longer periods of time with a lower tempreture.
:iconmyrddyn:
I always bake at 200.

This is stunningly beautiful, and I'm a devotee of Hephaistos. Are copies for sale?
